Math Is Cool Competition

Cheney 8th graders place Top 50 in the state.

Steven J. and Damian J. both competed in Math Is Cool Masters last Saturday in Moses Lake and came out on top. Steven Johnson placed 26th and Damian Jimenez placed 48th. A huge thank you to the transportation team for getting us there and back safely.

Firefighters Visit

Summit after school program had a visit with the firefighters from fire district 10 & 3.
One of our Summit instructors, Shyann Morton, is a volunteer firefighter and has been teaching and training with our Summit students about what it takes to be a firefighter.

Stop Motion Animation

What do you get when Art, Science and Math dance as one? Stop motion animation. Kids at Westwood Middle School are diving deep into the art and science of stop motion animation this quarter by creating their own characters using self-made clay, and bringing them to life with Stop motion pro technology. This class is opening the minds of many kids to a new world of adventure brought to life by a little science and math. Who knew learning could be so much fun!

Westwood hosted its first AttenDANCE of the year on Friday. AttenDance is a dance party for students with perfect attendance for the quarter. Each quarter is a new opportunity to earn this privilege. Exclusions do apply for half days, illness and appointments which last more than 4 periods in a day. This quarter we had 165 qualifying students. Go Wolverines!

Spanish & Art

Recently, Spanish and Art classes worked together on an inter-disciplinary project. Spanish students shared their knowledge of a world language with art students who shared their creativity and design skills. Two students who take both Art and Spanish had this to say about the experience, “We combined artwork with the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos. We created colorful and fancy Day of the Dead skeletons by mixing in bright colores, textured flores, and Spanish looking jewelry.” – Jake and Jeyza

FBLA Conference

On October 19th Westwood FBLA attended Fall Conference at the Eastpointe Church in the Spokane Valley. They were able to attend sessions on Business, Police Science, Internet Investigation, running a small business, and FBLA Presentations Classes.
