Reader's Theater

Sixth graders in Ms. Yanuszeski’s Readers Theater class found a fantastic audience at Windsor Elementary in Mrs. Richardson’s kindergarten class. Readers Theater is an opportunity to focus on reading and comprehending literature with expressive voices, facial expressions, and gestures. During 2nd quarter, the 6th graders not only performed plays for their new friends, but also became reading buddies. They really enjoyed their time together and greatly appreciated the kindergartners being such upbeat and enthusiastic learners.

Social Studies & Social Classes

For two weeks we have been learning about the social classes of Ancient Egypt. The students were thrilled to perform skits to teach the other students about their topic. We were able to see how government officials dined, peasants planted crops, scribes attended schools, artisans made their tools, and, a crowd favorite, how to embalm a pharaoh. The students were all assigned their own parts: historian, director, special effects, and host. The students went above and beyond expectations, bringing in elaborate props and well developed scripts. The skits were a huge success! -Mrs. Mortenson

Math Is Cool Competition

Cheney 8th graders place Top 50 in the state.

Steven J. and Damian J. both competed in Math Is Cool Masters last Saturday in Moses Lake and came out on top. Steven Johnson placed 26th and Damian Jimenez placed 48th. A huge thank you to the transportation team for getting us there and back safely.

Firefighters Visit

Summit after school program had a visit with the firefighters from fire district 10 & 3.
One of our Summit instructors, Shyann Morton, is a volunteer firefighter and has been teaching and training with our Summit students about what it takes to be a firefighter.

Stop Motion Animation

What do you get when Art, Science and Math dance as one? Stop motion animation. Kids at Westwood Middle School are diving deep into the art and science of stop motion animation this quarter by creating their own characters using self-made clay, and bringing them to life with Stop motion pro technology. This class is opening the minds of many kids to a new world of adventure brought to life by a little science and math. Who knew learning could be so much fun!
