Reader's Theater

Sixth graders in Ms. Yanuszeski’s Readers Theater class found a fantastic audience at Windsor Elementary in Mrs. Richardson’s kindergarten class. Readers Theater is an opportunity to focus on reading and comprehending literature with expressive voices, facial expressions, and gestures. During 2nd quarter, the 6th graders not only performed plays for their new friends, but also became reading buddies. They really enjoyed their time together and greatly appreciated the kindergartners being such upbeat and enthusiastic learners.

Social Studies & Social Classes

For two weeks we have been learning about the social classes of Ancient Egypt. The students were thrilled to perform skits to teach the other students about their topic. We were able to see how government officials dined, peasants planted crops, scribes attended schools, artisans made their tools, and, a crowd favorite, how to embalm a pharaoh. The students were all assigned their own parts: historian, director, special effects, and host. The students went above and beyond expectations, bringing in elaborate props and well developed scripts. The skits were a huge success! -Mrs. Mortenson
