8th Grade History - Paper Chain Perspectives Activity

Students are split into many groups. Each group is provided with certain materials to complete their paper chain. There are two goals: to create the longest and most colorful paper chain. Groups have different “advantages” and "hinderances" depending on their teacher-provided materials. Some groups have an easier time completing the task at hand, while others have a more difficult task because of their given materials. The point of the activity is to have students experience how a “story” can be told from multiple perspectives (each group having their own experience with the same project). The connection to history is to emphasize that the best historical sources are ones where multiple people provide their perspective on an event, not just one person.
